"Jailbreakers" crashed box-office limits (From Ming Papers)
A number of Korean movies hit box-office high in end-2002. Examples are "Se Ji Shi Kong" by Ren Jian Zheng and He Zhi Yun; "Mong Jing Ji" by Lin Fan Xiu and Jin Shan Ya; "Clan's Pride" by Zheng Jun Hao and Jin Zhen Yin; and our feature comedy here - "Jailbreakers"

The story narrates Jae-Pil, who was jailed because of stealing food. His numerous failed attempts to escape from jail costed him a extended jail-term of eight years. One day, he picked a spoon accidentally. He used six years to dig a tunnel with this spoon. He targetted to escape on "Guang Fu Jie" (15 Aug). On the other hand, Mo-Suk, was jailed four years ago due to a failed appeal. One day, he realised that his girlfriend (by Song Yun Ah) will be married on 15 Aug. Mo-Suk is determined to see her before she gets married. Thus, Jae-Pil and Mo-Suk escaped from jail together. After the successful escape, they were shocked to realise from the newspapers that they have actually been spared from jail term on 15 Aug! Originally, they can walk in the light. Due to the successful escapade, they became law-breakers. Hence, these two men "escaped" back to jail, causing numerous jokes.

Song Yun Ah has been crowned the "Best Supporting Actress"
"Jailbreakers" hit the 3,000,000 ticket sales in Korea. Other than funny script, the outstanding performance of the cast should be commended. With "Public Enemy" and "Oasis", Xue Jing Qiu (as Mo-Suk) won awards in prestigous Award ceremonies. Here, the sorry-looking character Mo-Suk is alive. Che Cheng Yuan (as Jae-Pil)'s performance is good too, especially the part where he was enjoying the sweets after his successful escapade, recalling his painful past... he teared. Song Yun Ah's performance has been brilliant! With "Jailbreakers", she bagged the "Golden Dragon Award - Best Supporting Actress". She has been recognised, after all these years of hardwork.

Although there are many hilarious scenes, the Director has handed them well. The scenes are really funny. Korean comedies are no longer trapped in the noisy, messy and x-rated details. Let's hope "Jailbreakers" hit the HK big screen soon ...
